Google’s Fancy New Gemini UI Arrived

Google Assistant Gemini on Android phones is getting a revamped UI that seems to have rolled out to a lot of people over the past 24 hours. The new user interface simplifies the overall look while bringing much of the color scheme to Apple’s new Siri animations.

The guys from Reddit noticed the change and shared the image above. The user interface has changed from the dark box you see below, with the text “Good morning”, the ability to maximize the window and a few buttons, to a simpler one-line panel with just a couple of clickable items. We also get a pink and blue glowing frame (this is where the Siri comparisons come in).

I wish I could tell you more about this new UI, but I don’t have it. Google does this amazing thing (this is sarcasm) where changes are slowly rolled out and not everyone gets it right away. So we do this dance with our phones: checking for updates, force closing things, swiping in circles, and adjusting settings in the hope that it will make a change. It almost never works because this ridiculous system is life and has been around for years.

Of course, you can try updating the Gemini app or the Google app, depending on which one actually controls Gemini, and see if that helps. I can tell you that using Gemini Advanced means nothing, and neither does owning a Pixel 9 Pro. You’d think that these things might matter and that you’d be in line to get something first (part of Gemini Advanced’s selling proposition is “priority access to new features”), but that’s not the case here. This change is being seen by users of all types of Pixel phones, even those without a paid Gemini subscription.

I think at the end of the day it’s just a UI toggle without any new features. And yet, can we have new Google things? We literally pay for them.
