Google’s January Pixel Update Appears Ready With Pixel Launcher Fixes

We’re entering the first full week of January, which means we’re starting to wonder whether Google will release a Pixel update or not. Since they abandoned their First Monday schedule a couple of years ago, the timing of the Pixel’s monthly update is kind of up in the air. However, some of their partners spoil any surprise from time to time, and today it happened again thanks to Verizon.

According to Big Red, Google is planning to release the January 2025 Pixel update today for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which contains more than just security fixes for some devices. Let’s discuss this before Google makes it official.

All Pixel devices that are still supported will receive the January Android build AP4A.250105.002. As for changes, Verizon lists the following for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series:

  • Safety
    • Provides the latest Android security patches for your device.
  • Sound problem
    • Addresses audio latency and stability issues when using certain applications.
  • UI problem
    • Fixed an issue with Pixel launcher theme icon colors displaying under certain conditions.

For the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, there are two additional notes regarding display/graphics and UI:

  • Display and Graphics
    • Fixed an issue with lines on the screen blinking under certain conditions.
  • User Interface
    • Fixed an issue with Pixel launcher theme icon colors displaying under certain conditions.

Lastly, for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 owners, this is just a security patch.

Google hasn’t made these updates public yet, but they’ll likely arrive in the next couple of hours. We will inform you as soon as this happens.
