Gurman: Apple to launch smart doorbell with Face ID in 2025

According to reports, Apple is preparing to launch its first smart doorbell supporting Face ID by the end of 2025.

According to a new report, smart doorbells will use Face ID scanning to automatically unlock doors. Apple has developed its own wireless network chip, Proxima, which will ensure that all Face ID-related images are processed locally on the device. The new devices also back up data to iCloud, which could be a good way for Apple to increase subscription revenue.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will also offer a smart lock system with a camera, or if it will work with products from third-party smart home lock manufacturers that are HomeKit-compatible. Apple is expected to opt in Wire Smart home standards. Gurman mentioned that Apple’s smart doorbell cameras are still in the early stages of development.

Amazon Ring and Google Nest smart doorbells

Apple’s smart doorbell camera will join smart home hubs similar to Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon’s Echo Hub devices. It is rumored that Apple will install a 6-inch touch screen on its smart hub device, and the device will also launch a customized new operating system that integrates Apple Intelligence, smart home control, and FaceTime support. Apple is also rumored to launch updated Apple TV and HomePod Mini devices next year.
