Gwent returns in The Witcher 4, according to CD Projekt’s heavy hints

Quickly, the world is in danger, your adopted daughter is under threat, and the inhabitants of a nearby village are being terrorized by monsters. What are you doing? Oh, you’re sitting at a cozy table in a local tavern. You’re playing a card game with a dude named Aldert. The wind is howling outside, the night ghosts are too, and you just sit there. We play another “cow” card. Fine.

I think you’ll be glad to know that The Witcher 4 The developers have more or less confirmed that Gwent will return to recently trailer Character continuation.

As I noticed PC gamerTwo developers from CD Projekt Red answered a recent interview question about an in-universe card game with some confidence, saying, “I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”

“We really love this game,” executive producer Gosia Mithreoga said in interview with Easy Allies. “And we also listen very carefully to the community that we love… But I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”

“Yes, of course,” added game director Sebastian Kalemba. “It’s part of the experience, absolutely. We also love Gwent.”

It might not have been difficult to revive the card game for a sequel, given that it was popular enough to spawn free multiplayer spin-off and a standalone single-player adventure, Blood Feud: Witcher Tales. Both, as card games, were pretty solid.

Gwent as it originally appeared in The Witcher 3 was inspired by a physical card game Leaderwith some differences in both visual design and rules to fit into the world of cat-eyed freelancers and cunning swamp witches. Meanwhile, the multiplayer version has evolved over the years from its original design to the point where every time I load it up, I no longer know how to best use my cards. I’m interested to see exactly what form this will take in The Witcher 4, and whether my winter tactics will be cover the board with frost will become viable again.
