Hearing a Mysterious Chime From Your AirPods Pro Case? It’s a Feature
If you hear a ringing sound from your AirPods Pro 2 when AirPods are charging, a feature Apple added with the launch of Hearing Health last year.
Apple’s support guide states that AirPods Pro may play audio occasionally while in the case to ensure the microphones and speakers are working properly. From Apple:
To ensure that your AirPods’ microphones and speakers are working at their best (for example, to ensure high-quality hearing test results), your AirPods may periodically beep quietly while they are in the charging case.
Information about the mysterious ringing was highlighted on Mastodon after unclear sounds from Apple AirPods were discussed at today’s event ATP Podcast.
As the podcast notes, Apple doesn’t have a set guide that gives insight into the different sounds AirPods make, so it can be confusing.
AirPods Pro will play a sound when the battery is low or when the charging case is placed on the charger or plugged in. Some sounds can be turned off by connecting your AirPods to your Apple device, going to Settings, tapping the AirPods icon, and turning off “Enable Charging Case Sounds.”
