Helldivers 2’s Illuminate enemies are heading to Meridia’s black hole
It’s an exciting time to be a Helldiver, with Arrowhead recently adding a city map, scout vehicles, and a third enemy faction to the game. At first, it seemed like the story of Illuminati’s return to the galaxy had been wrapped up in a weekend. light has come Immediately after being announced at the Game Awards and attacked the planet Calypso, with the Helldivers barely defending Calypso at the last moment. Now, the dastardly space squids have set their sights on another target: The black hole where Meridia once was..
This requires a little explanation. The first two enemy factions of the game are Terminators and Robots. The Terminids in particular proved to be popular enemies. Even with a major order from Super Earth instructing players to fight the robots, there are still a large number of players left in Terminal Space live out their starship troopers fantasy. Not long ago, Terminid threatened to respond to this attention with a series of rapid, effective evolutions. Super Earth intelligence discovered that the world of Meridian is a super colony.
Arrowhead is hosting a fun limited-time event where players must inject dark fluid into Meridia and fend off the armies of the super-colonies in order to complete this daring adventure. It succeeded, turning the meridian into a black hole. There’s an old trope about Chekhov’s Gun: If you show a gun in the first act, it better be fired before the play is over. It looks like Helldivers are now encountering Arrow’s Black Hole – if you opened a strange hole in space, it would attract the attention of some sinister squid.
Now, unlike their rival factions, the Light Ones do not claim a permanent portion of space. Instead, they conducted hit-and-run attacks on the super-Earth worlds, starting with Calypso and moving east. At first, there wasn’t much to note about this mode…and then Fans noticed something strange about Meridia. The black hole is now more purple and brighter, and appears to be sucking in debris at an alarming rate.
So far, the Helldivers have defended Terminator territory from the Light Ones—an odd position to be in after spending months exterminating bugs—and fought off squids. Operation Squid ended at approximately 4:30 pm ET on Friday, and as of this time, the Illuminati has once again disappeared from the map. But I don’t think this unfolding story is over yet. Clearly, there are some holes in Illuminate’s lineupI predict they will soon be filled with some new terrifying bio-organic horrors. At least players can now purchase vehicles as part of their strategy and hit the road at any time. When you’re embroiled in a three-front interstellar war for democracy, you have to count your blessings.
