Helldivers 2’s update adds the dreaded Illuminate faction, plus city maps and bouncy jeeps

Arrowhead and Sony have released a new Helldivers 2 An update that introduces a long-rumored third faction, the Enlightenment. The update, called Omens of Tyranny, also includes city maps and a drivable jeep with a gun mounted on it, which immediately reminds me of the Warthog from Halo and is hopefully just as fragile and resilient. Here’s the trailer.

And here are some smoking bullet holes – I mean bullet points.

– The Illuminated Faction: Inspired by classic sci-fi stories such as War of the Worlds, the Illuminated Ones pilot flying saucers and command armies of mind-controlled abductees called the “Voiceless” – so named by Super-Earth because they lost their word in managed democracy.

– Fast Recon Vehicle: A new Jeep-like vehicle can be found in new city areas, and after we complete a certain large order in the future, it will become available as a stratagem.

– Urban Environment: Blocks of mid-rise concrete buildings create new roads that you can drive your new car on if you can keep it upright.

Illuminate have been on the horizon for so long that I’m honestly getting tired of them, but those buzzing huge tripods definitely look intimidating.

This was back in February of this year, when Arrowhead’s in-game broadcast hinted at the return of Illuminateand Super Earth stated that the rumors were simply “the work of dissidents.” Later guns added to the game arc technology was used which seemed to hint that there was an Illuminati floating around there. Let’s not forget the Grand Order that turned the planet into black holeripe for alien activity. And then, in September, players reported the appearance of a faction on Galactic War Map.

Illuminate also appeared in the first game, equipped with Tesla beams, cloaking devices, and tripod mechanisms. They gave bugs and bots a different challenge, and it’s the same here. It’s unclear if they can control minds Helldiversbut I hope it’s possible.
