Helldivers reveals Star Fox-style game concept, as it invites ideas for next project

Helldivers Arrowhead Studios shared several previous presentations, including Star FoxA style game based on the Helldivers universe.

In the New Year’s post on XArrowhead CCO and Helldivers 2 Creative director Johan Pilestedt asked players to share their “expectations and desires for what the next Arrowhead game will be,” hinting that he is “working on a high concept” for the studio’s next release.

Responding to community comments, Pilestedt then discussed a number of previously considered “high concept” projects, including a Star Fox-style game tentatively titled “Eagles of Democracy.”

“We made a prototype in an unreal world,” Pilestedt. added. “Basically, this is an attempt to take over Starfox. So, arcade… but still a simulation.

“The name was Eagles of Democracy.”

Pilestedt also revealed that the team had previously worked on the concept of a top-down reimagining of the 1990 arcade game Smash TV:

“Smash TV is a top-down reimagining of the classic 1990 arcade game,” began the presentation, which was reportedly written about 12 years ago. “The game features up to four contestants in a violent game show set in the distant future of 1999. The game focuses on the inspiration of Smash TV to create a game filled with brutal action, deadly traps, and gladiator-inspired game shows.

“The game pays homage to ’80s action films like The Running Man, Total Recall, RoboCop, and Escape from New York, tying it all together with cheesy music, cool visuals, and amazing storytelling “

Arrowhead recently responded to player criticism regarding the high cost of its crossover Killzone 2ultimately deciding to give all players a planned second set of collaboration items for free.
