We successfully launched the upcoming Motion Cues feature with the latest Google Play Services v24.29.32 beta, indicating that it is nearly complete.
If this feature is rolled out to users, it will require the “Show through application” permission to work. Users will be able to toggle this feature through the Quick Settings tile. As you can see, the Motion Alerts feature also lets you choose whether you want it to automatically activate when “driving” is detected.
Here’s a practical demonstration of this feature:
As you can see, when motion alerts are enabled, animated black dots appear at the edges of the screen. These points will mimic the direction your vehicle is moving. This helps reduce sensory conflict between what your eyes see and the movement your brain senses through your inner ear, without significantly disrupting the reading or viewing experience.
This feature is not currently available in Play Services. We don’t know when, or if, it will be released to users, but given the finished state, there’s a good chance it will be released soon.
