To find “Father and Son” you must complete the field mission “The Troubled Nun”. You’ll start this automatically after meeting Gina for the first time. The mission requires you to infiltrate the Vatican Museum through the Blackshirt camp and rescue Gina’s friend Juliana from the top of the Borgia Tower.
As part of the rewards for completing “The Troubled Nun”, you will receive Juliana’s Key, which will also begin the “Father and Son” mystery quest. As Juliana told you, this will open a door near the Borgia Tower, as shown on the game map below.
At first glance, this might just be a shortcut, as the door leads to a balcony with a zipline that you can use to get back to the street. You’ll land directly outside the Fountain of Penance, ready to continue the main story.
However, there’s a second locked door near the zipline that holds the real mystery. Open it with Juliana’s key to find a storage room where you’ll find a sleeping dog, a lazy cat, a locked safe, a bandage, and piles of cluttered papers. One of the documents is a new adventure book that teaches the Throttle skill, allowing you to use Indy’s whip to launch invisible attacks at a distance.
In order to solve this mystery, you need to enter the safe. First, open the drawer on the table in the center of the room to find the Italian poem. The poem is irrelevant, but someone circled its eight letters: I, R, I, A, T, A, S, O.
Next, open the drawer beneath the nearby typewriter to find a second document: Polybius’s Square Diagram. This provides the code for letters in Italian poetry, although it’s not used much in video games.
In practice, The main obstacle in “Fathers and Sons” comes from the cursive script of the poem. It’s easy to mistake the last “O” for an “A” and mess up the entire code.
As you view the image, the circled letters turn into 4-digit codes:
I+R=5
I+A=8
T + A = 7
S+O=3
The password for the safe is 5873.
Open it to find Siwa photos, junior reports, office photos, and advanced reports. Find all 4 notes to get 60 adventure points, and complete “Fathers and Sons” to get 100 adventure points.
