I hope Samsung and Google address these camera challenges in 2025

2024 for Smartphone camera. Google delivered the compact Pixel 9 Pro The Xiaomi Mi 14 Ultra achieves some great results, becoming a Galaxy-beating camera phone with Apple re-inventing the camera button for the modern era.

Despite all these advances in mobile cameras, there’s still some room for improvement. I really hope that the Pixel 10 series, Galaxy S25 series, and other major flagship Android phones can solve these challenges in 2025.

What camera challenges do you hope Samsung and Google solve?

Capture subjects in motion

Samsung, in particular, still struggles when it comes to capturing moving objects, whether they’re people, pets, or active kids. Discovered by colleague Rita El-Khoury S24 ultra-frequently blurred photos Due to severe shutter lag compared to the Pixel 8 series. This delay can also ruin a shot, as shown in the example above. Google’s Pixel phones tend to do a good job of freezing moving objects, but there’s always room for improvement.

Some brands have been offering dedicated Snapshot or Sports modes for a while, and even Samsung’s Camera Assistant app allows users to prioritize speed over image quality. At the same time, OPPO has made specific enhancements to the standard photo mode of the Find X8 series, eliminating the need for snapshot mode.

Regardless, Samsung needs to make a concerted effort to reduce camera shutter lag in 2025. Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Low light video

Low-light photos may no longer seem like a big challenge thanks to today’s large main camera sensors and night modes, but low-light videos are another story. Few major smartphone manufacturers offer excellent low-light video quality, often producing clips that are too dark. Even phones with low-light video modes offer higher brightness, but often with excessive blur.

Still, mobile chipmakers MediaTek and Qualcomm have prioritized improving low-light video in recent years. Today’s large camera sensors also absorb more light than ever before. So as the sun sets, the clips come together for a better shot.

I’d particularly like to see Google solve this smartphone camera challenge in 2025. Even if you have fast data, you’ll still have to wait a while for the video to be processed on Google’s servers. so i really want Pixel 10 series Provides the appropriate night vision video mode to operate on the device. Unfortunately, a recent leak hinted at this feature May only appear on Pixel 11.

Video quality is average

In my opinion, Samsung is still the best Android phone brand in terms of video quality, although Pixel phones also offer good video quality. However, the Android ecosystem still lags behind the iPhone in this regard.

Android Authority Posted by Dhruv Bhutani, Contributor iPhone 15 Pro Max vs. Pixel 8 series Last year (see above) referred to this difference as “night and day”. Dhruv specifically praised the iPhone’s brightness, level of detail in various conditions, and smoothness. In fact, he thinks the “microshake” in Pixel editing ruins the footage.

That’s not to say that the Android brand doesn’t offer plenty of video-centric features. But I’m really excited to see OEMs (especially major players Samsung and Google) upping their game in this category to catch or beat Apple.

Editing tools

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

In recent years, Samsung and Google have provided some truly great editing tools that allow you to make revolutionary changes to your photos and videos after the fact. First, both manufacturers (as well as a host of Chinese brands) offer object erasing capabilities. Google also offers a cool Audio Magic Eraser Remove unwanted sounds from your videos, and Photo Unblur can (shockingly) unblur your images. Meanwhile, Samsung and some other brands even offer shadow and reflection removal. How crazy is this?

It would be great if Google, Samsung, and the rest of the Android ecosystem gave us more of these post-editing tools. Apple’s iPhone 16 series Some of the better examples are shown, such as the ability to change photo styles after capturing an image and remix audio after capturing a video. Both features would be great additions to Android phones.

I’d also like to see OEM editing tools take better advantage of the RAW format, as this would allow you to make non-destructive edits to the content. Imagine being able to take a snapshot on your OnePlus 13 and then come back and apply Hasselblad color adjustments. Alternatively, you can take a vibrant image on the Mi 14 Ultra and go back months later to get a monochrome version of that snapshot, rather than just the same image with a filter added on top of it.

Zoom enhancement and long range zoom

We praised the Google Pixel 9 Pro series’ long-range camera zoom capabilities, notes colleague Ryan Haines Pixel 9 Pro XLThe 10x shot shocked him. However, Ryan also criticized the long-awaited Zoom enhancements, which aim to improve zoomed-in snaps after the fact. The feature does seem to be hit-and-miss, with the worst-case scenario being over-sharpening of the footage. You can use Galaxy S4 filters if you want.

Samsung also needs to improve the camera zoom technology on its top Android phones. we compared Galaxy S24 Ultra to Mi 14 Ultra Earlier this year, we discovered that Xiaomi devices had significantly better long-range zoom results. Check out the comparison above.

Therefore, we hope that Google can significantly improve the zoom enhancement function, and Samsung can also upgrade its long-range zoom algorithm to provide more competitive image quality. Because companies such as OPPO will also bring popularity in 2025 through more advanced smartphone camera zoom technology.
