- Former Microsoft designer shows off some live wallpapers
- These are reportedly for Windows 11 23H2
- Microsoft has now apparently abandoned these ideas, as well as the concept of fancy AI wallpapers
If you want a beautiful “dynamic” wallpaper to appear Windows 11 – which you may be, based on some past rumors – then I have some bad news for you.
It seems that so-called dynamic or dynamic wallpapers – decorated with animations and subtle effects that make them more than your average desktop background – were once planned Windows 11but this is no longer the case.
Windows Center Notice the fact that the exMicrosoft Designer on the Windows team, Sergey Kiselevshared some alleged images of these live wallpapers.
“Microsoft explored a variety of dynamic animations and still images for low-cost devices, primarily targeting educational users,” Kisselev explained.
As Windows Central’s Zac Bowden told us, live wallpapers have appeared in Windows 11 previews in the past, and Bowden believes they should be introduced with Windows 11 23H2. Of course, that never happened, and according to another person who chimed in on the topic, it never will.
edge Note that well-known leaker Albacore on 24 hours.
This seems to be a clear indication that Microsoft has scrapped the idea.
“Are they scrapped?” Yes. The same system components also power the AI/Depth Effect Enhanced Wallpapers Everything Cool Is Destined to Be Canceled https://t.co/YNmEDBLve2January 2, 2025
As noted, this isn’t just the wallpaper being played here and is probably aimed more at the educational clientele.
You may remember that it seemed Microsoft has beautiful artificial intelligence wallpapers It’s in development and features a fancy parallax effect, but Albacore notes that the system components being binned also drive this feature. In other words, the idea isn’t going to happen either – there are no fancy wallpapers for Windows 11 users.
Analysis: Desktop disappoints
If you’re looking to bring your desktop to life in a meaningful way with cool wallpapers, your luck seems to be at an end.
To make matters worse, what the former Microsoft designer could have provided showcased some very clever backgrounds (especially in line with the new Windows 11 design scheme, which places the Start menu in the middle of the screen by default).
So we can only dream of such instant backgrounds for Windows 11 – unless Albacore is somehow wrong, or Microsoft goes back on its word (the latter seems unlikely). If you are disappointed, maybe Windows 12 (or whatever the subsequent operating system ended up being called) will give you the dynamic wallpapers you crave.
But for now, Microsoft’s plans for dynamic backgrounds appear to have hit a brick wall — a brick wall of blandness — and aren’t going anywhere. If you want to use live backgrounds in Windows 11, you’ll need to go the third-party app route.
