Indie App Spotlight: ‘TechniCalc’ is a comprehensive calculator with a clean interface
welcome to Standalone App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of standalone apps. If you are a developer and want your app to be featured, get In contact.
technical computing is a full-featured calculator app with all the advanced features you need – but without a clunky or outdated user interface. It focuses on being clean, easy to use, and good for mathematicians. It works on iPhone, iPad, Mac.
Interface Highlights
Many advanced calculator applications still feel like they’re from the ’90s, but not TechniCalc. Its beautiful interface scales well on iPhone, iPad and Mac. It also has light and dark modes. The developers focused on making two key interactions better than the competition, making it easy to use.
TechniCalc keeps everything visible as you enter equations, whereas some apps like to hide numbers you previously entered after pressing the plus sign or other keys. This allows you to easily read the equation.
Best of all, the keyboard is fully functional in both portrait and landscape orientation, reducing the need to rotate the device. It does this by grouping content into submenus behind the buttons, giving the interface a clean look while still retaining over 100 calculator buttons.
For example, if you press and hold Degrees, a submenu appears showing arcminutes and arcseconds. You can also hold sin to get arcsin, etc.
Mathematical ability
In addition to being able to do basic calculations, TechniCalc has just about everything you would want in a full-featured calculator, including the following:
- brackets
- Square roots and cube roots
- Exponential and logarithmic
- Trigonometry
- Trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan)
- Degrees, radians and gradients
- Constants (pi, e, and over 100 other physical constants)
It also features a formula book, calculation history, built-in unit and currency converter, and statistics mode.
For advanced mathematics, it also supports the following:
- Virtually unlimited number sizes – over 1,000,000 factorials
- square root and logarithm of any base
- Factorial, nPr, nCr and gamma
- Hyperbolic trigonometric functions (birth, cosh, tanh)
- vectors and matrices
- Imaginary and complex numbers
- series and products
- Numerical Integration and Differentiation
- Binary, octal and hexadecimal
- program mode
No matter what you need in a calculator, TechniCalc has you covered.
