Indie App Spotlight: ‘Type’ is the easiest way to take notes on your Mac
welcome to Standalone App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of standalone apps. If you are a developer and want your app to be featured, get In contact.
type is a minimalist note-taking app for Mac that makes it easy to capture notes and keep them organized – all with simple keyboard shortcuts. This is the best way to jot something down in a pinch without any potential distractions.
how it works
type It works similarly to Spotlight, where a text box pops up when you press a key binding. I personally map mine to an alternative space to make it easily accessible. Once the window is open, you can create a new comment and write whatever you want in the text box.
This is great if you’re in a meeting and just want to briefly jot down notes. It puts a timestamp on your thoughts as you type them, making it easy to recall the details.
You can also separate different events into different notes for easier organization. If you prefer, you can also just write a note and send everything there. Type stores your notes in text files native to your Mac, keeping them private and easy to understand. Your data is not trapped in the app.
All features
type The ability to import notes from other applications, such as Obsidian, allows users to add content on top of them. You can also customize date formats, switch between plain text and Markdown, and uncomment links with types – allowing you to tidy up your interface without actually deleting that information.
The developers also plan to add the ability to always keep the app open, in case you don’t like keyboard shortcuts. You’ll soon be able to search for and export your notes, too.
Download “type”
type Available for Mac App Store Free As a 7-day trial, you can purchase the full application as a one-time purchase for $7.99. It requires macOS 13.0 Ventura or higher.
