Despite The Last of Us’ popularity over the past decade, it’s no secret that many Naughty Dog fans are unhappy with the studio’s lack of new projects. However, that all changed as they released a new game, Interstellar: Prophet of Heresywhich looks like a return to the studio’s roots… sort of.
The trailer is over four minutes long and was released on December 12 The Game Awards 2024marking the show’s final reveal. We’ve known that Naughty Dog has been working on a secret new project for years, but the potential timeline has remained a mystery. Well, we don’t have to wonder anymore, because the first trailer is packed with information and delves into a solid “box-futuristic” aesthetic. Before we get into all the juicy details, here’s a look if you haven’t seen it yet:
according to PlayStation Official Blog, Star Effect: Prophets of Heresy developed exclusively for PS5which is not surprising for the current generation. The show has been in development since 2020 (when “TLOU: Part 2” was released) and tells the story of a “dangerous bounty hunter” named Jordan A. Mun. Basic pitch? She ends up trapped on the remote and mysterious planet Semperia, a world where “communication with the outside universe was interrupted hundreds of years ago.”
Jordan is on a mission that seems a bit personal, at least from what we can tell by watching the first trailer, but she’s also “if she hopes to be the first to leave its orbit in over 600 years.” If her voice If it sounds familiar, that’s because she’s made of Tati Gabriellewho plays a key role in the 2022 Uncharted movie.
Naughty Dog is teasing an “emotional, character-driven epic journey,” which is a natural fit for the studio while also referencing seminal anime sci-fi works Such as “Akira” and “Cowboy Bebop” Serves as a strong inspiration. The anime is even in-universe in the trailer, so they’re definitely cooking with gas there.
While it’s too early to tell for sure, all signs (especially the final stretch of the trailer) point to a more adventurous and light-hearted entry – even more fun than Uncharted – which could be would bring the studio back to its more interesting roots. Of course, this isn’t quite literally the return of Jak and Daxter, but we’re happy for any kind of action that embodies those colorful, swashbuckling sci-fi vibes. This instantly became one of our most anticipated Upcoming space games must.
