Apple reportedly staggered the release of iOS 18 features, causing development delays for iOS 19 BurundiMark Gurman.

Historically, Apple has announced new software features at WWDC in June, and then released full software updates alongside new iPhone models in September. However, due to the gradual rollout of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18, it seems iPhone users will have to wait a long time to take advantage of the many new iOS 19 features that Apple will inevitably promote at WWDC 2025.

in a New posts on X (Twitter)Gurman said he continues to hear that engineers who would normally transition to work on the next major iOS version are still busy implementing features of the iOS 18 update via iOS 18.4, expected in the spring.

Gurman reports that the expanded rollout of iOS 18 features through point versions is having a knock-on effect on the iOS 19 development schedule. Unfortunately, this situation is expected to lead to a similar staggered rollout of features in the next iOS cycle, which will likely frustrate many Apple users.

The latest development follows a report from Gurman last month that said iOS 19 would include an important feature Siri upgrades powered by large language modelsmaking the assistant more conversational, similar to ChatGPT. Apple is expected to preview this enhancement at WWDC 2025 in June, but it won’t be available until iOS 19.4 in spring 2026.

However, the current focus on iOS 18 updates seems to be affecting more than just Siri upgrades. Gurman said in November that “a larger number of features than usual” originally planned for release in iOS 19 have now been delayed to iOS 19.4.

apple wednesday Release iOS 18.2introducing a number of new Apple Intelligence features that have been touted since the launch of the iPhone 16 series in September. iOS 18.2 is the last iOS update in 2024, and iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4 will bring Siri screen awareness, deeper per-app control, and Some other enhancements.
