Did You Know iPhones Can Measure a Person’s Height? Here’s How
The iPhone, equipped with Lidar scanner, have a useful trick: they can be used to measure human height. To use this function, you will need an iPhone Pro or Pro Max, released in 2020 or later.
Below we describe how to measure the height of a person using iPhone.
How to measure
The ability to measure the height of a person is built into a pre -installed Apple application.
- Open the Seraus application on a compatible iPhone (see the list below).
- Make sure the person is visible on the screen of your iPhone from head to toe.
- Wait, and the line should appear in the upper part of the human head with the measurement of their height.
- To photograph the measurement, press the shutter button (filled white circle) in the lower right corner of the application.
- To save the photo, click on the screenshot in the lower left corner of the screen, click “Made on top” and click “Save” in the photo.

- The application measures the height of a person from the ground to the crown of the head or hair. However, if a person wears a hat, the measurement of height will be from the ground to the top of the hat.
- You can also measure the height of the person’s seat.
- You can switch between the imperial (feet and inches) and metric (centimeters) in the “Settings” application as part of the measurement of units.
Here are a few additional tips from Apple:
- Make sure you are in a place with good lighting.
- Avoid dark backgrounds and reflective surfaces.
- Make sure that the person you are measuring does not cover anything with your face or head, like a face mask or sunglasses.
- Try to retreat from the person you measure. You can stand too close.
Compatible iPhone
This function requires the iPhone with the Lidar scanner next to the rear camera. This sensor is usually used for augmented reality, but its ability to measure the height of a person is a useful bonus that many people do not know about.
