Josh King’s viral slide-out MagSafe gamepad found a home at OhSnap and looks amazing
It’s no taller or wider than an iPhone, so it slides into your pocket. It features a MagSafe magnet pattern that allows it to be connected to magnetic ring devices. You don’t need to remove it to use the phone like a phone because the entire gaming grip retracts underneath, Kind of like a slide-out keyboard phone (or PlayStation mobile), and now it’s mounted on a spring-loaded arm that pops up at the push of a button and holds the device at a slight angle to your face.
OhSnap even found room for a pair of Nintendo Switch-style analog sticks, complete with anti-drift Hall effect sensors and a pair of folding grips so you can (theoretically) hold it like a full-size gamepad . The joysticks are clickable buttons, and it also has a full set of shoulder buttons and triggers.
two months ago, Retro Game Legion Gone Very impressed with the prototypeand King seems to have Very It’s been busy ever since. as he explained on YouTubeInitially, he tried to start his own company around gaming controllers, even attracting some investors, manufacturing some motherboards, and working on injection molding, before he began to run out of money and sought a partnership with OhSnap.
Speaking of money, we don’t know how much it will cost, especially at retail—OhSnap plans to launch a Kickstarter on January 2 to raise funds. Registration is currently being accepted here.
I should get my hands on a prototype at CES 2025 in Las Vegas next month and I’ll let you know how it feels.
