Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i has a 14 inch OLED display with a camera hidden inside

How expectedLenovo has unveiled the first laptop with an under-display camera that is invisible to the eye when not in use. New Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i is a laptop with a 14-inch OLED display with a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 98% screen-to-body ratio, as the top bezel doesn’t need to be thick enough to accommodate the camera.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i will be available in February with prices starting at $1,760 and up. The laptop supports an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V Lunar Lake processor, 32GB of LPDDR5x-8533 memory, and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage.
The laptop’s most unusual feature is obviously the under-display camera, so it’s interesting that none of the photos Lenovo included in its press kit are actually show laptop with camera disabled (image above is a screenshot from promo video).
You can tell because the camera is can actually be seen when you use it. When you want to take a photo, record a video, or make a video call, the small circle of pixels at the top center of the screen turns black, allowing the laptop’s 32-megapixel camera to capture video through the screen. And all promotional photos show the laptop in exactly this condition.
Fortunately, the guys from Digital Trends published a short video it gives a better idea of how the screen transitions from a bare-bones 14-inch display to a screen that looks like it has a smartphone-style camera cutout when the camera is turned on.
Several smartphone manufacturers have been using under-display cameras for the past few years as a way to offer a full-screen experience without any visible cutouts or camera holes. But Lenovo is the first company I know of to use this kind of technology in a laptop.
Unfortunately, even though the Yoga Slim 9i’s 32-megapixel webcam has a much higher resolution than those found in most laptops, Digital Trends notes that images still tend to look a little soft and blurry. compared to the best laptop webcams, although Lenovo uses some of them. However, if you value a compact laptop with thin bezels and doesn’t I actually plan on using the camera a lot, I can see how this design could be attractive.
The laptop weighs just 1.25 kg (2.76 lb) and measures just 313 x 204 x 14.6 mm (12.3 x 8 x 0.57 in) at its thinnest point, but there’s still room inside for a battery with a capacity of 75 Wh and four speakers.
One area where the laptop lacks is its port selection. There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, but that’s about it. The good news is that both of these ports can be used for power, data, and video. The bad news is that there’s no headphone jack, USB Type-A ports, or anything else – so if you need to connect more than two things at once, you’ll need a USB hub or dock.
Other features include a backlit keyboard with 1.5mm key travel, Wi-Fi 7 support, and a 65W USB-C power adapter.
