Lutron’s Caséta Smart Shade promises quality and HomeKit compatibility for $399

Lutron has earned a reputation for producing high quality HomeKit-compatible blinds, but at a very high price. Cost is something the company is trying to address with the new Caséta Smart Shade.

We reviewed the company’s Serena line back in 2018, when we really liked the productbut not so much the price of almost $900 per window.

As for the build quality, I am completely satisfied with both the overall appearance and the material of the lampshade. When it comes to remote control, Serena motorized shades are responsive and operate smoothly. The motor isn’t so quiet that you’ll want to record sound in the room while it’s running, but for normal use that’s certainly not an issue.

The challenge is to use this solution to convert an entire house of windows to HomeKit-controlled windows. For a single window, the price may be impractical. For your entire home, you can include the cost in the price of your home!

Indeed, when I was calculating the cost of a Lutron system for my apartment (which has many windows from floor to ceiling), it turned out for a terrifying $22,000!
