Marvel Rivals Has Several Heroes Who Can Shut Down Ultimates
marvel rival Each of the 33 heroes has an impactful ultimate ability that can wipe out a team, save an ally from death, or empower your friends and tip the scales in a battle. One of the most important skills to learn is how to react when you hear one of these abilities coming, whether that’s running away when you hear scarlet witch Scream “Pure Chaos!” as she floats into battle with explosive intent, or raise her shield when Star-Lord starts firing auto-aiming bullets at your vulnerable allies. But some heroes can only turn off a few of their ultimates in the game; it’s just a matter of timing, precision, and situational awareness to make sure it’s worth the risk when you can escape.
Fans have been trying out several of the game’s stun-based abilities against different ultimates, and have discovered that several heroes on the roster can deny enemy players all their worth with just the press of a button. Some of them are pretty simple, like Luna Snow freezing Scarlet Witch from her reality-erasing attack.
Others require greater precision and gameplay, such as using Cloak & Dagger’s Dark Teleport ability to briefly make your team invulnerable Jeff the famous menacing land shark Try to devour them and spit them out of the map.
For some of these strategies, timing really is everything. Some heroes’ ultimate abilities have a brief startup animation before going truly insane and unstoppable. Characters with crowd control abilities, like Wolverine and Penny Parker, can block most ultimates if they attack before the enemy performs the attack, and doing so often results in the stars aligning. Of course, the ability cannot be on cooldown, and you must have perfect line of sight to attack. But if you’re playing a hero with this kind of utility, this is a great skill to have in your arsenal.
Many of these shutdowns will become second nature to you as you memorize the final voice lines and be on the receiving end of every attack. Predicting when your enemies will give up on their foes is an important part of canceling possible team eliminations. This also comes over time, as you’ll feel when an enemy may have accumulated enough damage or healing to charge their ultimate. Then you’ll know where to look when the enemy attacks. For example, you’ll see an Iron Man trying to flank your team, surprising you with an invincible pulse cannon, or Thor leaping into the air before slamming his hammer. You can spend some time on the training ground to see what abilities you can actually block, but nothing can replace playing casual matches and trying them out naturally. You’ll then be ready to take those skills into competitive play.
