Mass Effect fans think this official image hints that Paragon/Renegade system is “absolutely returning”
Mass Effect Fans think they’ve spotted a hint that the show’s signature morality system may return in Mass Effect 5.
While developer BioWare hasn’t confirmed anything either way – meaning we can only take this with a bucket of salt at this point – fans like user X Kalaelizabeth believe they’ve spotted a hidden nod to Mass Effect’s Paragon/Renegade system hiding in plain sight.
Take the post below which includes official promotional image about the next Mass Effect game, which, at first glance, may not tell us much at all.
However, look a little closer and you’ll see why fans are jumping to these conclusions. Whether or not you believe this image secretly confirms that the morality system is coming back, BioWare has an interesting image to share, especially when superimposed with the iconic Paragon symbol:

The flames of speculation were further fanned by a report that Calaelizabeth quoted. BioWare Project Director and Executive Producer Michael Gamble recently commented on the series’ long-standing moral mechanics, admitting that while the original trilogy had more players choosing to be Paragons, i.e. “good” Shepards, the way you play is “meaningless” unless the ability to be “bad”.
“As for Renegade and Paragon, yes, it’s true that more people played Paragon. But it would be meaningless if Renegade didn’t exist. The ability to choose is stronger than the number of people playing any option IMHO,” Gamble tweeted (Thanks, TheGamer).
Does all this mean that Paragon/Renegade will “definitely return” in Mass Effect 5? Absolutely not. But this may be one of the best interpretations of why BioWare teased such an interesting image.
As for the highly anticipated Mass Effect TV show? The adaptation was first announced back in 2021, with former BioWare lead writer Mac Walters explaining that various factors were driving the company forward. shifting his original vision for a film adaptation towards something for a smaller screen. Later that year, reports emerged claiming that Amazon ‘close to deal’ for Mass Effect seriesas part of the ongoing promotion of science fiction and fantasy stories.
And now these reports have been confirmed. Variety discovered on the last day of N7 – November 7, 2024 – The Mass Effect series is now officially in development at Amazonwith 10 Cloverfield Lane and Fast & Furious 9 (aka F9: The Fast Saga) screenwriter Daniel Casey as writer and executive producer.
