Mass production of microLED displays begins next year – Foxconn
Apple has Transition not completed yet From LCD monitor to organic light emitting diodesbut at some point it goes beyond this Micro LED Screen. Major supplier Foxconn announced that it expects to start mass production of this advanced display technology by the end of next year.

Apple moves towards microLED
Apple has not yet completed the transition to OLED, its third display technology:
- Initially, it used an LCD with a traditional backlight
- Then move to LCD with mini-LED backlight
- Apple Watch, iPhone and the latest iPad all now use OLED
- With the launch of MacBook, Likely in 2026
However, Apple is already looking to more advanced display technology, namely micro-LED. This delivers a brighter display with greater color accuracy, longer life and greater energy efficiency, without the screen burn-in weakness of OLED.
The company is expected to start this initiative with the microLED Apple Watch, But then it was canceled (Or, possibly delay) the plan because the technology isn’t advanced enough.
Foxconn prepares to mass-produce microLEDs
Apple’s main partner Foxconn declare The company expects to begin mass production of its first microLED screens by the end of next year. These are microdisplays for future AR headsets.
Hon Hai Technology Group (“Foxconn”) announced its cooperation with Porotech to enter the augmented reality (AR) glasses market.
The collaboration leverages Porotech’s cutting-edge gallium nitride (GaN) technology and Foxconn’s vertically integrated services from MicroLED wafer processing to packaging and optical modules, aiming to meet the needs of microdisplay wafer and AR glasses production. The two parties will jointly provide high-performance, high-brightness, compact and thin AR display solutions to promote the development of global AR and micro-display technology […]
The company plans to establish a MicroLED wafer processing production line in Taichung, with mass production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.
This could indicate that the first products featuring the technology will launch in the first quarter of 2025.
Foxconn said the technology would meet the needs of “future mainstream global customers” but did not provide more specific information than that.
