MediaTek launches new gaming-centric Dimensity 8400 chipset
MediaTek looks set to have the final say this year, as the Taiwanese company has just launched another product – the Dimensity 8400 chipset. MediaTek’s latest announcement comes just months after Qualcomm launched its flagship chipset. Snapdragon 8 Elitewhich may also be the last product launched by the American company in 2024. The technology promises higher energy efficiency (via MAGT), precise 5G/Wi-Fi switching, improved and optimized network connections, and touch latency optimization.
MediaTek’s new chipset accommodates eight Arm Cortex-A725 processors: 1 Arm Cortex-A725, 1MB L2, 3 Arm Cortex-A725, 512KB L2, and 4 Arm Cortex-A725, 256KB L2.
According to the chipmaker, the new Dimensity 8400 chipset features the most powerful generative AI in its class:
- 20% faster integer/floating point operations
- Power efficiency increased by 18%
- Text generation speed increased by 33% (Baichuan 4B)
- Stable diffusion v1.5 speed increased by 21%
- Diffusion transformer support
- NeuroPilot compression technology
- Mixed precision INT4 quantization technology
- Faster LLM speculation speed support
Not to mention that the multi-core performance of the Dimensity 8400 has been increased by 41% and the peak power consumption has been reduced by 44%. For those who love gaming, the new Dimensity 8400 chipset comes with Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and MediaTek Frame Rate Converter for excellent gaming performance.

MediaTek claims that the G720 GPU requires 30% less memory bandwidth, improving peak performance and further saving power. It also provides a 24% increase in peak performance and a 42% reduction in power consumption.
It is also worth mentioning that MediaTek’s Imagiq IPS chip supports camera sensors up to 320 MP (3x 32 MP) and WQHD+ displays with refresh rates up to 144 Hz, as well as dual-screen support.
It also comes with a modern 5G advanced modem with performance up to 5.17 Gbps and MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+ technology for higher 5G energy efficiency.
Unfortunately, MediaTek has not announced when it will launch the first Dimensity 8400 The phone will be launched in the market and it is also unclear which brands will adopt the new chipset in their products.
