Most Read – Turing Institute, Izanagi AI processor, Suborbital flights

Let’s look at them in reverse order:

5. Turing Institute ‘demoralized’
The Daily Telegraph reported that the Turing Institute had “a collapse in morale”. The findings come from a report written by an unnamed “outside consultant.” “Across all focus groups, a high proportion of responses indicated that leadership was perceived as ineffective,” the report said, adding that the institute suffered from “a pervasive problem of low morale”. Employees are said to have complained about “nepotism” and “token” hiring, and cited its “chaotic and disorganized” culture.

4. The unstoppable hypersonic missile stopped
According to the Daily Telegraph, Ukraine used the Patriot surface-to-surface missile defense system to intercept Russian hypersonic missiles that it claimed were unstoppable. Last month, Russia launched eight “Dagger” missiles and one “Zircon” missile into Ukraine. The “Zircon” and seven “Zircon” missiles were shot down.

3. Teledyne Space Imaging wins constellation acquisition sensor contract
A British imaging sensor manufacturer is celebrating the signing of a contract to build the Constellation Acquisition Sensor (CAS) instrument for ESA’s innovative mission. Teledyne Space Imaging collaborates with Thales Alenia Space in the field of optical electronics, known as LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna). It is led by the European Space Agency, in collaboration with member states and NASA. The LISA mission will be the first space-based observatory dedicated to studying gravitational waves, the agency said. These are described as “ripples in the fabric of space and time.”

2. SoftBank Izanagi artificial intelligence processor expected to be launched next year
SoftBank is preparing to challenge Nvidia in the field of chips for training and running artificial intelligence software programs in a project called “Izanagi” that may invest $100 billion. According to Bloomberg, the plan is to launch a prototype of the Izanagi processor in the summer of 2025 and mass ship it in 2026. Izanagi is the Japanese god of creation. At the heart of the program are Arm and Graphcore, which provide wafer design. Arm’s move up the value chain to design more systems is part of that plan.

1. Virgin Galactic considers suborbital flights from Italian airport
Virgin Galactic Holdings is working with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority to study the feasibility of suborbital space flights in the far south of Italy. Specifically, the US-based company will partner with the Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile (“ENAC”). They will investigate the feasibility of using the Grotali spaceport in Puglia. Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier said: “Developing world-class spaceports in key locations is critical to our goal of expanding human space travel around the world.”
