MSI has opened a laptop manufacturing plant in India to meet growing market demand. Asian Digital Age MSI is reportedly launching two fully localized models to India, the Modern 14 and Thin 15, which won’t be sold elsewhere.
MSI has announced that its first factory will be built in Chennai where it will manufacture the India-exclusive Modern 14 and Thin 15. MSI is said to have partnered with local retailers such as Croma and Reliance Retail to help distribute its products across the country and launch its brand-specific laptop stores in conjunction with its manufacturing facilities.
Both notebooks are mid-range products; the Thin 15 starts at about $623.82, and the Modern 14 starts at about $871.04. Specifications haven’t been revealed, but the designs of both laptops are inevitably based on MSI’s upcoming iterations of the Thin and Modern series. The Thin series is MSI’s gaming-focused line of laptops that prioritizes the slim 15.6 form factor (as the name suggests), with models like the B13VX boasting a nominal 21.7mm thin chassis. The Modern 14 series is a non-gaming, prosumer/productivity line of MSI notebooks with a smaller 14-inch form factor. Again, the specs of the new India-only models remain to be seen, but MSI may update them with the latest hardware from Intel, AMD, and/or Nvidia. The upcoming iterations of the Thin and Modern 14 series use previous-generation hardware, primarily featuring RTX 30-series GPUs and 12th-generation Core mobile processors.
India is experiencing rapid growth in the demand for high-performance notebook computers, which is the only reason why MSI has made a big move into the Indian market. MSI India General Manager – Notebook John Hung is said to have said that the growing demand for high-performance notebooks was crucial in the decision to set up a local manufacturing facility in India.
Hence, we expect MSI to capture a large share of the Indian laptop market from now on. Expert Market Research reports that the Indian laptop market size is expected to almost double from 2023 to 2032, reaching $10.02 billion in 2032 ($6.82 billion in 2023). A large part of this is due to the sharp decline in India’s PC market share (down 30.01% in March 2023), which is being replaced by 2-in-1 and regular laptop demand. This change is said to be a result of government digitalization efforts as well as adoption rates Rising results.
