Next-gen CarPlay’s first models should still ‘arrive in 2024,’ per Apple’s site
The holidays are about to begin, and Apple and other companies tend not to make many new announcements. But we’re still expecting a major update, According to the Apple website: The arrival of the first batch of next-generation CarPlay car models.
Apple’s year-end CarPlay announcement trends
It has been a full year since Apple launched Fulfilled the promise Announcing the first next-generation CarPlay vehicles by the end of 2023. Porsche and Aston Martin are the first two manufacturers to announce.
But now there’s another CarPlay-related promise waiting to be fulfilled. Apple’s website has been saying this for a long time – and still say——The first batch of next-generation CarPlay models will “come out in 2024.”
Now, there’s not much time left in the year, and there haven’t been any updates on that front yet.
Presumably, Porsche, Aston Martin or another automaker is preparing to announce something with Apple before the end of 2024.
Alternatively, it’s possible that the launch of the next generation of CarPlay has been delayed and Apple’s website hasn’t been updated yet.
2024 deadline looms, but there’s still time
I kept checking Apple’s CarPlay page, hoping to see that little banner — “First models available in 2024” — updated to say 2025, or “Coming Soon.”
But so far, nothing has officially changed.
But Apple still has time. Last year, the next generation of CarPlay wasn’t released until December 20th. Maybe the company plans to keep us in suspense a little longer this year.
Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but in theory the lack of updates should be a good thing. This suggests announcements are still expected.
What to expect from the next generation of CarPlay
To recap, Apple says the next generation of CarPlay will bring the following features:
Next-generation CarPlay brings the ultimate iPhone experience to the car. It provides content for all driver screens, including the dashboard. This ensures the best coherent design experience for your car and iPhone – with designs from each automaker expressing your vehicle’s character and brand. Vehicle functions such as radio and climate control are handled directly through CarPlay. Personalization options, from small components to selected instrument cluster designs, make it unique to the driver.
