Nintendo Breaks Silence on Switch 2 Mockups and Photos Leaks

Nintendo has commented on various Switch 2 mockups and photos that have leaked online in recent days, insisting that they are not official.

Japanese division www.vrenture.com/ issued a statement in response to accessory maker Genki’s Switch 2 mockup that it brought to CES 2025 in Las Vegas and showed off to the press. According to MachineNintendo told CNET that “the gaming hardware that Genki presented as Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and was not provided to the company by us.”

Genki also posted a video showing a render of the Switch 2, which follows numerous leaked images of the next-gen console. Automaton reported that Nintendo told the Japanese Sankei Reservoir these images and videos are “not official.”

IGN caught up with Genki at CES 2025 to learn more about the Switch 2’s layout.. At the time, Genki insisted that the mockup was based on the actual Switch 2 system, which it had seen and used as the basis for its accessories. A Genki representative expressed surprise at the fuss over the company’s mockup, saying they believe all the information about the Switch 2 has already been leaked and Genki hasn’t said anything new. “I honestly didn’t expect this much media attention,” they told IGN at CES.

Now Genki seems to have retreated. Machine reported that a Genki representative admitted to a Japanese publication Game*Spark that its Switch 2 layout was based on leaked information circulating in the industry, and that the official size of its product has not yet been determined. Genki also reportedly admitted that it hasn’t actually seen Nintendo’s next-gen console, despite reporting it just a few days ago.

While Genki’s layout did lend significant weight to the growing number of past leaks about what the Switch 2 will be like, it’s worth noting that Nintendo hasn’t officially revealed anything about the system yet, and all of these claims are subject to change or outright refuted. . Official announcement expected in the first quarter of this yearfor Nintendo.

Other reports have suggested that supposed Joy-Con sensor could be used to turn the controller into a mouse. Meanwhile, purported retail listings for MicroSD Express cards for the Switch 2 suggest the console supports the new SD card standard in 256GB and 512GB capacities.

So, what was Genki’s Switch 2 mockup based on if it wasn’t actual Nintendo hardware? Next The appearance of alleged images of the insides of the Nintendo Switch 2fresh images supposedly showing off the Joy-Con of next-generation consoles appeared online late last week. The images, which show the left Joy-Con, were reportedly first posted on a Chinese social media website before making their way to the Nintendo Switch 2 subreddit and Western social media.

These include larger SL and SR buttons than those on the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, which is to be expected given that the Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly a larger console than the original. These new Joy-Cons supposedly ditch the guide-locking method used by the current Switch in favor of electromagnetic suction controllers.

In September, unverified images – a mixture of computer-aided design (CAD) images and photos of printed circuit boards – that were said to have been obtained from a Chinese website before ending up on Reddit, depicted a device similar to the existing Switch console but with a larger screen and magnetic Joy-Con. A USB-C port is also reported to be available on the top and bottom of the console.

Accompanying the images was a list of supposed specs that mentioned 12GB of RAM (the original Switch had 4GB) and 256GB of internal storage (the original Switch had 32GB). There’s supposedly a new “C” button on the right Joy-Con, but no one seems to know what it does.

We also have patentfiled in July 2023 but first published last week, which describes AI image upscaling technology that will help keep video game download sizes small enough to fit on a physical game cartridge while offering up to 4K textures.

Here’s what we know for sure: Nintendo has confirmed that the yet-to-be-announced Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with original Switch games and will include Nintendo Switch Online.. Nintendo also said it will announce Switch 2 by the end of March 2025, meaning the reveal is quickly approaching. Regarding the release date, The console is not expected to be released in Nintendo’s current fiscal year.that is, it will arrive no earlier than April 2025.

We even have the developers directly state that they plan to release their future games on the consoleWith others are teasing the release of their games on Switch 2. When Switch 2 eventually releases, Nintendo expects it to have plenty of stock availablewhich, in turn, will help combat scalping.
