Not Everyone Is Hyped About AI. If You’re One of the 73% Who Agree, Here’s How to Turn Off Apple Intelligence

If Apple Intelligence doesn’t appeal to you, or you’d rather wait until the technology is more mature, it’s easy to turn it off entirely or selectively disable certain features.

I’m not a artificial intelligence crank — I appreciate things like notification summaries and cleaning tools In the Photos app. However, Apple Intelligence is also a work in progress, an evolving set of features that Apple is touting as a step-by-step development process. If you don’t want to be distracted or feel like you’re doing Apple’s testing for them (this is Developer and public beta is for).

Keep in mind that Apple Intelligence only works with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, or M-series Macs and iPads (and the latest iPad mini). if you have Updated to iOS 18.2,you need to Add yourself to the queue to access new features.

Here’s what you need to know about disabling it.

How to completely turn off Apple Intelligence (iPhone, iPad, and Mac)

Open settings (iPhone or iPad) or System settings (Mac) and select Apple Intelligence and Siri. then close Apple information options. Click in the dialogue box that appears to confirm your choice Turn off Apple Smart.

This is what you lose:

(Oddly, the cleanup tool in Photos remains even when Apple Intelligence is turned off, probably because the app downloaded resources for it the first time you used it.)

How to turn off individual Apple Intelligence features

Maybe you find some Apple Intelligence features useful and others annoying (or just highly interesting). You can turn off specific features in the app’s settings.

For example, to disable text snippets in message notifications, go to Settings > Apps > Messages and close summarize message options.

Some features are not app-specific. Writing Tools Proof or rewrite text using Apple Intelligence, which appears as an option when you select text, regardless of the application. To turn it off, you need to disable Apple Intelligence system-wide.

Also note that almost every app includes an Apple Intelligence & Siri option in Settings with Learn from this app option (on by default). This only applies to Apple Intelligence and whether Siri can monitor how you use it to make suggestions; it doesn’t affect any specific Apple Intelligence functionality.
