Six months later, the European Commission accepted a request from Italy’s competition regulator to investigate the deal, which could pose specific risks to competition. The committee began its investigation in mid-November.
The study found that while Nvidia may dominate the global market for discrete GPUs used in data centers, it has no incentive to limit the compatibility of its GPUs with orchestration software produced by Run:ai competitors. Additionally, it found that Run:ai’s market share is currently too small to play a significant role in any case, and that customers looking for such software have ample options.
But Nvidia may not be out of the woods yet. Competition authorities in other markets are closely scrutinizing the company’s acquisition strategy, and earlier this month China’s State Administration for Market Regulation regulator Nvidia launched acquisition five years ago — coincidentally another Israeli company — comes back for review.
