Ofcom apologises for ‘ill-judged’ porn joke job ad

Baroness Kidron, a backbencher who campaigns for children’s rights online, said concerned people had forwarded her the advert “dozens of times”.

She said she responded with a “cry of pain.”

“Ofcom does not understand its role. They are all that stands between us and the most powerful companies in the world. We need adults who want results that change people’s lives for the better,” she told the BBC.

And Gemma Kelly Head of Policy and Public Relations at CEASE, externalwas also heavily criticized.

“A spokesperson for Ofcom, the body responsible for regulating harmful online content, making jokes about an industry that normalizes violence against women, monetizes sexual violence and encourages objectification is completely reprehensible,” she said.

Others who work in the charity sector responded to her, with one person calling the Ofcom employee’s post “hugely offensive” and another calling it “deeply inappropriate and disturbing”.

The BBC asked Ofcom about the allegations and why other senior staff at the organization liked the original post, but received no response.
