One UI 6.1.1 update is making some Galaxy S22 series units unusable

when Samsung One UI 6.1 was rolled out to the Galaxy S22 series back in September, and the update added some welcome AI features. But a subsequent update, One UI 6.1.1, brought something we were sure users didn’t want. It comes with a bug that causes boot loops or display stutters on the Galaxy S22 series. For those unfamiliar with the term, a bootloop is when a phone gets stuck in a constant rebooting loop. The phone will turn on, start the booting process, then suddenly stop, then start the cycle again.

Some Galaxy S22 series users say their phones reboot and go through this cycle several times a day, while others say their phones randomly freeze and crash. No matter which issue is causing your Galaxy S22 model to become unusable, it will cause your Galaxy S22 model to become unusable. This didn’t happen out of nowhere. Earlier this year, when Samsung released One UI 6.1 for the Galaxy S22 series, similar issues started appearing on the phones, forcing Sammy to cancel the update and re-release it a few weeks later.

Complaints can be seen in Samsung’s EU Community Forum We’re guessing there’s nothing in the Digital Markets Act that prohibits Samsung from distributing defective software updates. The company has mentioned possible fixes for users to try, but things like clearing cache and even performing the dreaded factory reset didn’t help. A Galaxy S22 series user even asked Samsung technicians to come to their home and recommend replacing the phone’s motherboard.

Well, that would be good news, right? Yes, but the technician refused to replace the motherboard under warranty because he found a small crack in the screen that even the camera couldn’t capture. As this unlucky Galaxy S22 series owner put it, “It’s outrageous that a £1,300 ($1,625) phone should break down within 23 months, and Samsung’s response is to replace a phone that is now worth just $1,625. Ridiculous Phone offers repair quote of £500+ ($635+ USD) ~ £400 ($500 USD) brand new.

According to those who have called Samsung Authorized Service Centers after their Galaxy S22 series phones were infected and affected by the update, the motherboard theory seems to be the most commonly discussed issue at Samsung Authorized Service Centers. This seems to be an issue affecting a large number of Galaxy S22 series users in Asia and Europe that are powered by the Exynos 2200 SoC. If the latter is true, then all Galaxy S22 Ultra units should be fine as they all come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 applications processor regardless of the country they are sold in.
