OnePlus 13 fakes Qi2 with these cases and magnetic charger

The OnePlus 13 is here, and while it doesn’t make stupid excuses about the lack of wireless charging, it still neglects Qi2. However, the OnePlus 13 still introduces “Mag”, a collection of third-party cases that add the Qi2 magnetic aspect to the device after the fact.

Officially, OnePlus 13 is based on the Qi 1.3.3 standard. This means it doesn’t natively support a ring of magnets that can be used to align the charger or install accessories, like MagSafe in Apple’s new iPhones. This is of course disappointing because to date only one Android phone uses this technologyand it seems that everyone else is simply content to ignore the updated standard, despite the obvious consumer benefits.

OnePlus hasn’t provided any compelling reasons for ditching Qi2 other than citing thickness and connectivity issues, but the company isn’t leaving customers without a choice.

Coinciding with the launch of OnePlus 13, OnePlus is introducing Mag, a new line of third-party cases with built-in magnets that deliver key Qi2 benefits. Three hulls are available: wood grain, aramid fiber and sandstone.

We’ve tried all of these cases and they fit as well as you’d expect from a first party case. The aramid fiber case doesn’t have a texture, but it feels softer, absorbs damage well in our tests over the past few weeks, and has a very strong magnet that matches the best MagSafe iPhone accessories. Meanwhile, the Sandstone case is a durable alternative at a lower price and brings back the grippy texture that OnePlus used on its very first smartphone.

What really caught my attention was the Wood Grain casing, which gives the OnePlus 13 a natural texture even though it’s just veneer. The case is thin, has a very strong magnet, and doesn’t completely hide the OnePlus 13’s flat frame like others do. Personally, I’m a big fan of this thing.

OnePlus will sell these cases starting at $24.99.

  • OnePlus 13Aramid Fiber Magnetic Case – $39.99 US / $54.99 CAD.
  • OnePlus 13 Wood Grain Magnetic Case – $39.99 US / $54.99 CAD.
  • OnePlus 13 Sandstone Magnetic Case – $24.99 US / $34.99 CAD.

Meanwhile, there is also a new AIRVOOC charger that uses these magnets.

The $79.99 charger is magnetically mounted for 50W wireless charging and features a cooling fan that can be controlled via OxygenOS. This works well enough, but I personally have a hard time understanding why it exists. Magnetic chargers make sense to me from an alignment standpoint, but the OnePlus version is designed for extra speed and cooling, which apparently can be solved by just using a wire instead (especially considering you’ll need a regular charger to get full power SuperVOOC device). using this magnetic accessory).

All these accessories are already available, just like the OnePlus 13.

The OnePlus 13R also has a magnetic case, but the phone itself lacks wireless charging entirely.
