OnePlus Made Your iPhone a 50W Magnetic Wireless Charger With a Fan

As part of today’s OnePlus 13 launch, OnePlus also released the most random of devices – a 50W wireless charger that is mainly made for iPhones (or magnetic cases). We have one at home and yes, it’s something.

I called OnePlus AIRVOOC 50W Magnetic Chargerthis thing is really a wireless charger that attaches to magnets to stick to your phone and charge it. It’s essentially a MagSafe charger for your iPhone, or if you have a MagSafe-enabled case (like this). Of course, OnePlus is now selling a magnetic case for the OnePlus 13, and it will work well with it.

This accessory is capable of charging at 50W wireless speeds if your device supports it. To my knowledge, only OnePlus devices in the US can support these speeds wirelessly. You will also need a suitable charging brick to power it. But theoretically it is possible. When connected to my iPhone 15 Pro, I was able to get it close to the speed supported by the 15W device.

OnePlus has built in a fan to help keep things cool, because these top speeds (and wireless charging in general) can get very hot. The fan cannot be turned off when charging a non-OnePlus phone. It’s also quite loud, so you’ll want to walk away from where you’re spending time and then come back, unless you like the sound of the fan turned up to 100. It’s an odd choice to turn a fan like this on without having a manual switch or something. to turn it off. I don’t know.

The charger itself has a strange design. Well, I should say that it is designed to be attached to the back of the phone when you are holding or using it. You see, the charger has a small red protrusion in the center of the back that sticks out so the charger can’t lay flat on the table. If you try, it tilts and wobbles a little, which is annoying. If you want, you can flip it on its side (see below) to prop up your phone at a viewing angle. It’s like they made this thing for storage, but then why not just plug it into a USB-C port and charge faster and without the loud fan? Again, I don’t know.

But seriously, they are trying to convince iPhone owners to buy it. OnePlus has dedicated an entire section to “iPhone wireless charging compatibility.” And as I just mentioned, I was able to get it to charge my iPhone at around 15W. It rests against the back and sticks to MagSafe on the iPhone. The magnets are probably strong enough, although they stick with more force on the official OnePlus 13 magnetic case.
