OpenAI is losing money on its pricey ChatGPT Pro subscription – Computerworld

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a post on Xsays the AI company is currently losing money on its Subscribe to ChatGPT Pro. “People are using it much more than we expected,” he wrote.

In December, the company introduced ChatGPT Pro subscription. The subscription costs $200 per month and gives users access to an updated version of the o1 reasoning model, o1 pro mode, and has no user restrictions for tools like the Sora video generator.

In another post Altman wrote that he personally chose the price of ChatGPT Pro, believing that it would make money for the company. But the high costs associated with training generative artificial intelligence tools for large language models (LLMs) make it difficult for OpenAI to achieve profitability.
