On the eighth day of Christmas… well, the eighth day of “OpenAI’s 12 Days” (a series of holiday-themed announcements from the company behind ChatGPT), OpenAI took a now-familiar approach live streaming on YouTube announced a series of search-related updates to its signature AI chatbot.
Specifically, OpenAI just released three of its major updates Web search experience in ChatGPTwhich will officially launch in October 2024 after running as a standalone, Invitation-only preview site a few months ago called SearchGPT.
Here’s what’s changed:
- ChatGPT search is Now available to all users around the worldeven for free users – after logging in. Network, unlike before, was only available to paid subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and above (Pro, Edu, Team, Enterprise) plans.
- OpenAI updates the search results experience in ChatGPT to highlight web link Websites like Netflix or travel booking will appear forward The rest of the generated, text-based answers are written by the chatbot.
- Arguably the most impressive and biggest update is Users can now Search by voice query When they activate Advanced Voice Mode (turn it on by pressing the Audio Wave button in the bottom compose bar, which looks like a series of parallel vertical lines). This allows users to ask for the latest news about travel destinations, the latest weather forecasts, or even ideas for activities (presumably any other non-sex-related news in the world – ChatGPT searches don’t offer this feature). ChatGPT’s voice assistant will respond in the voice you choose from 10 preset voice style options.
This is also part of the second update: OpenAI has integrated the ChatGPT mobile app on iOS and Android devices with those platforms’ respective maps, so that if you search for nearby restaurants, it will use the system map app on your device (Apple Maps or Google Maps respectively) to display a list of results.
All in all, this is a series of useful, if not blockbuster, improvements that most importantly should help ChatGPT users.
OpenAI presenters have teased that tomorrow, the ninth day of the 12 Days of OpenAI, there will be news to share with third-party developers building on the OpenAI platform and application programming interface (API). Please stay tuned and we will keep you updated on the latest developments.
