
OWC’s new optical cables offer up to 15 feet of Thunderbolt 4 connectivity
OWC has introduced a pair of new cables for those users working in production setups that rely on a Thunderbolt 4 connection. What does USB4 40Gbps active optical cable What’s different from other Thunderbolt 4 cables is their longer length: they’re available in 3 meters (9.8 feet) or 4.5 meters (14.76 feet).
OWC cables are optical cables instead of copper, which allows the cables to transmit data at higher speeds over longer distances. OWC also claims that the cables are immune to electromagnetic and radio frequency interference and support a stable signal over 2 meters. The 3m cable is “lab certified” and delivers 240W of power, while the 4.5m cable delivers 60W. The cables also have a braided nylon sheath for durability.
OWC cables are some of the longest you’ll find and are a good alternative to Apple cables. Apple’s largest option is High quality 3 meter Thunderbolt 4 cablewhich retails for $159. The 3-meter OWC cable costs $95, a whopping $54 cheaper. OWC also has a reputation for quality items, so you won’t have to worry about sacrificing anything while saving money.
