Has your Google smart speaker given you silent treatment recently? Join the club.
Over the past few days, users of Google Nest and Nest Hub devices have been reporting Google Assistant has stopped responding to basic commands Examples include “What’s the weather like” and “What time is it now?”
Confused Nest users Contact Google Support for possible solutionsbut with little success. Fortunately, Google just Tell Android Authority that a fix has been deployed and “All users should now be up and running.”
The issues appear to have started earlier this week, with Nest users on Reddit and other forums complaining that their smart speakers would go silent when asked for the most basic commands.
“It just cycles the little light for 15 to 20 seconds and then blinks and does nothing.” a Nest user wrote on the Google Home Reddit subreddit. “I tried a factory reset [the speaker] Twice but no luck.
This bug affects a variety of Nest speakers and displays, including Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Hub, and Hub Max.
Oddly, many Nest users (including those at Android Authority) said that the speakers did Respond to smart home commands and music playback requests. But for more basic tasks—like asking about the weather or the current time—there are no dice.
Personally, I haven’t noticed an issue with my Nest Hub or Nest Hub Mini at all, although I haven’t been actively testing them over the past few days either. I tried the Nest Hub display and Nest Audio this morning, and both responded quickly to my weather and time queries.
In a message to Android Authority, Google said it was “still investigating the root cause of the error.”
But it is worth noting that Google has begun Testing its Gemini AI model on some Nest devicesthe LL.M. handles answers to more in-depth questions while allowing Google Assistant to handle more basic tasks.
