PSA: AirPods Max are missing a key feature on the new USB-C model
Apple’s AirPods Max update this year isn’t a full AirPods Max 2; Switch to USB-C and color swap. Unfortunately, New USB-C models It also loses a key feature supported by the original version.
AirPods Max with USB-C don’t support wired playback
original AirPods Max with Lightning Basically the same as the new USB-C model, only the charging port and color are different.
However, Apple’s first AirPods Max have one key advantage.
They support cable playback.
If you buy it from Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm audio cableyou can connect Lightning AirPods Max to any headphone jack and listen through a wired connection.
This feature is perfect for airplanes, podcast recording, and a variety of other use cases. it Technically no Lossless audio playback is available, but it would be nice to have a wired option.
But as discussed recently 9to5Mac Happy Hour podcastApple has made changes with the latest AirPods Max.
There is now never Use AirPods Max with USB-C for wired playback.
Plugging in via USB-C doesn’t work, and Apple doesn’t offer any adapters that enable this feature. Various Reddit threads document users attempting wired playback via different third-party adapters. None proved successful.
Can Apple restore wired support?
All hope is not lost.
There’s always the possibility that Apple could offer wired playback capabilities through a new adapter or AirPods Max firmware update. Although I certainly wouldn’t make a purchasing decision based on that possibility.
At least for now, the new USB-C AirPods Max Key features missing their lightning predecessors.
