Python wins Tiobe language of the year honors
Tiobe’s monthly index is based on a formula that estimates the number of qualified engineers worldwide, courses and third-party providers relevant to the language. Popular websites such as Google, Amazon, Wikipedia, Bing and more than 20 others are used to calculate ratings.
Elsewhere in the Tiobe Index for 2024 C language popularity declined and was surpassed C++ and Java. According to Jansen, the main reason for this was that C was being replaced by C++ in many embedded systems. “Java and C++ are currently fighting for second position. Another interesting thing is that PHP said goodbye to the top 10 and was replaced by Guo, a top 10 goalkeeper.”
Jansen also noted Rust And Kotlin. “Rust continues to become more and more popular. Despite the amazing speed of Rust programs, the steep learning curve will unfortunately never make it the lingua franca of the average programmer. Kotlinon the other hand, I’m disappointed: I didn’t break through and even lost (perhaps forever) my position in the top 20 in 2024.” The Jansen report also notes an increase Zigrising from 149th place to 61st in 2024, and Mojowhich jumped from 194th place to 68th. “I have high hopes that [Mojo] will approach the top 20 position in 2025,” Jansen said.
