The Raspberry Pi Foundation has expanded its Raspberry Pi 5 lineup with a 16GB variant priced at $120. This new model joins previously released 4 GB and 8 GB versions introduced in 2023 and cheaper 2GB model released last summer.

In a blog post announcement of a new modelThe company explains that it continues to be impressed by the variety of projects that use its equipment.

“Many of these fit into 8GB (or even 2GB) of SDRAM, but the 3x performance boost between Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 opens up use cases like large language models and computational fluid dynamics that benefit from having more memory per unit . Core, and while the Raspberry Pi OS is tuned to have low base memory requirements, heavy-duty distributions like Ubuntu benefit from the extra desktop memory.”
