You can bring security and Safety Thanks to maker and developer Reckless_commenter and its latest creation, brought into your home by the minds at Aperture Laboratories Raspberry PiPower creates. He uses our favorite SBC to bring the chilling scenes to life sentry turret The drone from the Portal series – despite being a stationary drone without bullets – is still sure to strike fear into anyone familiar with ominous security drones.
According to Reckless_commenter, the idea started as an opportunity to 3D print decoration units. However, the 3D model doesn’t print very cleanly and needs some work to be stitched together in a way that produces better results. It was during this process that he soon realized that space could be created within the turret for some microelectronic equipment.
After much deliberation, he finally decided to add a Raspberry Pi and install LED eyes and speakers on the front so it could talk like the one in the game. The battery makes the unit portable, so you don’t need a power cord or outlet nearby to power the unit.
In order to keep the hardware footprint small, Reckless_commenter chooses to add a new Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. The Pi is connected to an LED and an Adafruit MAX98357A amplifier module, which is connected to a small 3W speaker for vocal output. For power, it uses LiPo batteries and an Adafruit PowerBoost 1000C module. The Sentry Turret also has a charging port so you can replace the battery without taking it apart. A simple power switch allows you to turn the device on and off.
