Rayman stars in a weird NFT game vaguely inspired by the coolest Far Cry DLC that Ubisoft’s just quietly plopped out, because of course he does
Ubisoft has done it again. Here’s a strange new NFT game released by a publisher with little fanfare. This one has Rayman in it and is based on something inspired by A fun Blood Dragon expansion for Far Cry 3if you can believe it.
As you may know, this isn’t the first time Ubisoft has quietly released a weird NFT/Web3 game this year. Champion Tactics: Chronicles of Grimoria at the end of October. The name probably doesn’t mean anything to you, but you may remember it as a game that suffered from a bug which led to one or two players starring and winning instantly in every match until there was a ban, a patch, and then some sort of awkward unban.

Meet Captain Laserhawk: The GAME, a game released earlier this week with virtually no marketing, likely because, as Stephen Totilo of Game file reports that it includes a bunch of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, and even requires NFTs to play.
However, this is where things get weird. This game is based on the Netflix animated series called Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which itself takes inspiration from Far Cry: Blood Dragon. really good an expansion for Far Cry 3 or a standalone mini-game based on it, depending on your perspective.
You remember the Blood Dragon, right? It was a cool twist on the 80s action movie style of your island adventure with Vaas, and it allowed you to play as a military cyborg named Sergeant Rex “Force” Colt, voiced by Aliens and Terminator actor Michael Biehn.
Either way, based on Totilo’s words, this NFT thing isn’t nearly as fun. Instead, it’s reportedly an early access game that is “the simplest top-down shooter imaginable,” allowing PC users to do some humorous things while facing off against characters from that Neflix show and Rayman, who for certain reasons is a guest starring.
“Rayman is the brilliant face of the entire Eden media system, from the Eden Report to the Eden Late Show, including every form of entertainment,” reads the Ubisoft mascot character description on the website. Captain Laserhawk: GAME website.
“In his early life, Rayman was a resident of a universe called Dimension X. As an immigrant to this reality, Rayman witnessed many injustices in America and struggled to overcome rejection from everyone he met. He was happy to see America fall. – and even happier that Eden gave him a purpose. Since he is Eden’s chief propaganda officer, Rayman’s friendly image can be seen throughout. While the resemblance to Rayman is influential, Rayman is simply a cog in Eden’s machine.”
Wait a minute, Ubisoft turned Rayman into a Die Hard villain you’d actually want to side with by the middle of the movie? Maybe, but I’m not playing some NFT bullshit to find out.
