Realme 14 Pro+ hands-on – GSMArena.com news
Realme invited us to Denmark to experience the new Realme 14 Pro+ for the first time. This is more of a preview than a full announcement, as key details about the Pro+ and its sibling Realme 14 Pro are still under wraps.
The company will make a full disclosure soon. Now, let’s talk about appearance. It’s no coincidence we’re here, Realme collaborated with Copenhagen-based Valeur Designers to design the exterior.
Together they engineered a back-color-changing look we’ve never seen before. In the past, some phones would change color when exposed to sunlight ( Realme 9 Pro+For example). This one is different in that it responds to cold temperatures – perfect for the season.
The back of the Realme 14 Pro+ usually looks pearly white, but when the thermometer drops to 16°C (61°F) or lower, a vibrant blue swirl appears on the back. Once the phone warms up, they quickly turn back to off-white. This is the first time this type of material has been used on a smartphone. Note that Realme considers this an “extra feature” – the effect will fade over time due to sunlight exposure. It is expected to last about 12 months under normal use.
This is a demo. We use an ice bath to speed up the process, and Realme is not afraid of water, hot or cold. However, you don’t need water to show off the results to your friends, and it works just as well on cold winter days.
Pearl White is not just a name, by the way, realme uses real shell pearl powder on the back, mixed with microcapsules containing special color-changing pigments. The powder mixture is not uniform, so each phone will have a unique pattern on its back panel.
The underwater theme continues the underwater photo mode. Since the touch screen doesn’t work properly underwater, you can use the volume keys to take photos. This phone is rated IP68 for diving and IP69 for hot water jets.
Unfortunately, we can’t talk about the camera just yet. Anyway, I won’t go into details. It can be said that the Realme 14 Pro+ will be the only phone in the series to feature a periscope camera.
Take a closer look at the back, where the three LED flash modules are arranged in a circle and spaced 120° apart. Realme calls it “MagicGlow” for even lighting of nighttime portraits. This will create a more natural light for your subject. Something else you can notice when we turn on the flash – the color temperature of the light is different. This allows the camera to control the color temperature of the portraits it captures.
The 14 Pro+ will also be the only one in the series to feature a quad-curved display. These curves appear only at the very edges of the display, making the already thin 1.6mm bezels look even thinner – the display looks almost bezel-less from all four sides. It’s also a good quality panel, but the details have yet to be fully revealed.
The back is matte and light-colored to make fingerprints invisible. The frame has a gold tone, as does the frame surrounding the camera island.
Realme 14 Pro+ is equipped with a new Snapdragon 7s third generation. Unlike the 7s Gen 2, this one is built on the 4nm TSMC node (instead of the 4nm Samsung node) and uses ARMv9 Cortex-A720 and A520 cores, as well as the next generation Adreno 810 GPU (as opposed to the A78/A55 CPU core) as well as older silicon Adreno 710).
Qualcomm’s official data shows that compared with 7s Gen 2, 7s Gen 3 has a faster GPU (+40%), better CPU performance (+20%), and improved AI tasks (+30%). And it consumes less power – 12% overall, but the new CPU core is 45% more efficient than the old ARMv8 core.
Realme is about to launch the 14 Pro series, which includes the Realme 14 Pro+ that we are focusing on, as well as the more affordable Realme 14 Pro model, so keep an eye out for more news.
