Resin makers on YouTube will inspire your next crafting hobby

The holidays come with a lot of family conversation. Whether you’re taking the necessary flights, trains and cars to reunite with your loved ones, or celebrating from afar, there’s usually a flurry of family updates – with calls of well-wishes inevitably (and thankfully!) turning to reports and check-ins. Some of us come from divorced homes and know the ropes of making phone calls, so take some wisdom from me.

First, I recommend preparing some ready-made anecdotes or topics. You have to get into the flow of the conversation, but even a simple “So what’s up with you?” can create a yawn-inducing amount of openness. Even experienced conversationalists can get overwhelmed quickly if you’re not prepared.

This next one may be controversial, but I think is crucial: Have a mission! Hang out, sort out clutter, wash dishes, take a walk, sit down and do crafts—— any. We’re looking for things your brain can do in the background so you can focus on the call and vice versa to really give it your all. I’ve been known to clean a house or two when I’m interacting with people. But when I’m still, my personal favorite is watching videos of craftsmanship, especially resin makers.

These videos have the advantage of being silent, except for the creepy soundtrack, which you can mute while on a call, but that requires complex programming work. That’s the thing that fascinated me, in a way that almost overrode my innate sense that I was never cut out for this line of work. It’s fascinating and incredible. Each step has its own skill set, and each step gives way to this extraordinary whole.
