Rotating bezels have a chance to return in Galaxy Watch 8 Classic

long story short

  • Samsung released Watch 7 and Ultra models without rotating bezels.
  • Before the Watch 6 series, Samsung offered a rotating bezel option with its classic models.
  • New evidence suggests Samsung may return to the top with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic.

A good thing is very satisfying, Tactile, physical interface. How many of you are touch screen keyboard experts but also like the good feel mechanical keyboard? Or really love your car’s modern dashboard and all the information it provides, but still carry a flashlight for that old dashboard covered in knobs and switches you can start without even taking your eyes off the road?

When it comes to wearables, perhaps the most prominent example of this idea is the rotating bezels that have appeared on Samsung Galaxy Watch models over the years. While the touchscreen works well in a pinch and is more practical from an engineering perspective, navigating the watch’s user interface with just a single twist feels very natural. That’s why so many Samsung fans were disappointed with the arrival of the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. No rotating borders Not at all.

Samsung has been toying with these rotating bezels for years, skipping the option on the Watch 5 series and just adding Watch 6 Classics. While the company skipped this with the latest generation, a recent discovery has raised hopes that Samsung will bring it back next year.

The latest entry in the GSMA device database mentions the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, as Wisdom Award. It has the model number SM-L505U, which seems to be roughly in line with the numbering convention Samsung has adopted for this year’s Watch 7 and Ultra models.

Still, there’s not much to say beyond the name and model number just yet – but even that might be all the insight we need. Samsung only uses the “Classic” branding on the Watch 4 and Watch 6, and both times correspond to the presence of a rotating bezel. While nothing is certain, it would be surprising to see the company bring back a classic option without bringing back its most iconic design elements.

Are you giving up on this year’s Galaxy Watch models because they don’t have rotating bezels? Will the Watch 8 Classic convince you to give Samsung wearables another try? Let us know in the comments.
