Rumour: New ‘Switch 2’ Leak Suggests Console Will Require A 60W Charger
Another day, another Switch 2 leak, guys! This is a message from a respected accessibility and culture consultant. Laura Kate Dalewhich published what appears to be a fresh image of the docking station of the future successor.
Dale claims that the image is from a reliable source, and while it doesn’t show anything special in terms of the actual design of the dock, it does include some information about the input and output voltage. The dock itself shows text that states the input voltage is 20V and the output voltage is 15V. In comparison, the Switch OLED dock states that the input and output voltage is 15V.
Additionally, Dale says the new console will likely come with a 60W charger. This is a significant improvement over the requirements of the current Switch dock, which supports 39W chargers. The obvious implication of this is that the original Switch charger will likely not be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2, and this information also confirms that Reddit user NextHandheld told The Verge a few weeks ago.
At this point, it’s unclear why the input voltage is higher on the upcoming successor, but our theory is that it could be due to the additional accessories plugged into the supposed additional USB socket on top. We can’t say for sure until Nintendo itself provides more information.
We know this isn’t the most exciting leak in the world, but it’s a little more information worth digesting while we wait for official word from Nintendo. We also recently saw what looks like final model of the left Joy-Concomplete with a new mysterious optical sensor. Some have speculated what this could mean Joy-Con can be used as a mouse.
