I can’t remember the last time someone mentioned Bixby to me. Samsung’s virtual assistant fell further behind last year, while its competitors Gemini and Sirireceived major AI updates. However, everything may soon change. Samsung recently announced its Galaxy Unpacked Event will take place on January 22 in San Jose, California, and the company is expected to unveil Galaxy S25 Series world with updated Bixby.

IN teaser video at the event, someone can be heard saying, “Hey, when’s the Samsung Galaxy unboxing coming up?” They are then asked to mark a date on their calendar and Galaxy AI appears on the screen. Judging by the video, it is likely that Samsung will demonstrate its new Bixby update At the event, the virtual assistant will likely run on a large language model (LLM) similar to Gemini and ChatGPT.

Bixby may actually be relevant again

Last year, Samsung announced a major update to Bixby

This isn’t the first time Samsung has hinted at significant changes to Bixby. Last year, a Samsung executive said the company was working to bring generative artificial intelligence capabilities to Bixby. TM Ro, head of the mobile company Samsung, said in an interview CNBC interview last year that the company is working to launch AI-powered Bixby by the end of the year, which will rely on its own LLM rather than Gemini or ChatGPT.

Last year, Samsung released AI-powered Bixby. However, in China it was launched only on the Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip. Samsung hasn’t mentioned anything about its international availability, likely because it’s saving all those details for Galaxy Unpacked. The redesigned Bixby on the Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip uses advanced LLMs that help the virtual assistant better understand languages and handle multiple and more complex commands simultaneously.

A major Bixby AI update will likely launch as part of Samsung’s One UI 7 update alongside the launch of the Galaxy S25 series. This is not included in One UI 7 public beta. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S25 series and its updated Bixby at the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. The company recently announced that it will introduce its updated Bixby. AI Subscription Clubwhich launched some of its home appliance products in South Korea last year with Galaxy phones; however, it may not release globally.
