Samsung to launch a unique tri-fold smartphone this year

Last year, Huawei stunned the world with its Mate XT“triple” smartphone (by the way, it folds twice, not three times). And since its introduction, we’ve been wondering when another smartphone maker would release its own triple device.

Based on a new report from Korea, the answer now looks like “in the second half of 2025.” And it will be Samsung that will present its own version, although at launch it will be available in very limited quantities – less than 300,000 units to be exact.

Obviously, this is due to the insanely complex production of such a device, but we’re sure Samsung will find ways to improve its manufacturing capabilities if the device turns out to be extremely successful.

This may be tricky, however, as it may not be a coincidence that Samsung is rumored to have the highest price tag for a foldable device ever released. The screen of the Samsung device will be manufactured by Samsung Display. Presumably, it will fold differently than the Huawei Mate XT, and when it’s fully folded, the folding screen won’t be visible on one side. This is aimed at increasing durability.

The screen size will be different due to the new folding mechanism and will be “10.5 inches when unfolded on the left side and 12.4 inches when unfolded on the right side,” according to machine translation from Korean. The device will not have an under-display camera.
