SanDisk Creator Phone SSD clings to iPhone to store hi-res video
The SanDisk Creator Phone SSD is different from competing portable drives with MagSafe. This means the drive magnetically attaches to the iPhone, where it can store up to 2TB of ProRes video while recording.
SanDisk introduced SSDs at CES 2025, along with other new storage options.
The SanDisk Creator Phone SSD is designed for creators
With iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max or iPhone 15 series equivalents, you can record high-resolution ProRes videobut only if the data is transferred directly to the external drive. The SanDisk Creator Phone SSD is poised to be that drive. And since it connects to the back of your iPhone, using this combination is a breeze.
It offers data transfer speeds of up to 1000 MB/s read and up to 950 MB/s write, so creators can use it to record 4K video at 60 frames per second.
While SanDisk is focusing on using the drive with the iPhone Pro or Pro Max, it’s certainly not limited to phones. The drive comes with a USB-C cable to connect to any Mac and most iPad models. And there’s even a magnetic ring that lets you attach it to your MacBook.
SanDisk says the Creator Phone’s SSD is “specially designed for content creation on the go.” It has a durable silicone body, drop protection up to three meters and IP65 water and dust resistance.
Pricing starts at $109.99 for the 1TB version. The cost of the 2 TB version has not been announced. Regardless of capacity, the product launch is scheduled for this spring.
